ITEC LyonStudents of ITECH Lyon investigate optimum application of SUCCUIR

A year of intensive investigation under the direction of Delphine Bégué lies behind the students of ITECH Lyon, who worked on the sustainable pre-tanning agent SUCCUIR of Schill + Seilacher in their final thesis.
The aim of the project, which was accompanied by the leather chemicals department was to determine the optimum application parameters – including pH value, application quantity, temperature and reaction time – to ensure the most efficient tanning possible. The results are promising: The tests confirm not only a high shrinkage temperature and tensile strength of the leather, but also a high degree of biodegradability. The students Audrey Blanchet, Léna Guedes and Gauthier Charles drew a positive conclusion: „This project was a great learning experience. It allows us to deepen our technical understanding of tanning processes, experiment with sustainable innovations and strengthen our analytical and problem-solving skills. It also demonstrated the importance of collaboration between academic and industrial partners to drive innovation for a more sustainable future.
